My husband and I bought the small farm in 2002. We explored the many
livestock options and narrowed it down to sheep. I had helped my grandmother
with her small flock of crossbred sheep and was familiar with their care
and temperaments. Shetland sheep stood out when examining which breed
to get. They were known to be thrifty, easy lambers, and wonderful mothers.
The added bonus was that their wool commanded an excellent price and they
were a smaller, easier to handle breed. These were all traits we desired.
